History of Ladies of The Circle of Perfection
LOCOP

In Illinois

The history of the Circle of perfection in Illinois dates back to approximately February 14, 1989. During the 3rd Annual Banquet for the Grand Council of Illinois, Lady Juanita Taylor was in attendance and wearing her purple fez. It caught the attention of Heroines Doris T. Anderson and Ethel Jones. They went to Grand Thrice Illustrious Master James F. Clarke, Sr. to inquire if a house could be started in the State of Illinois. With his blessing, they assembled 13 men and women who were also interested, among whom were Jeanette Gary and Leroy Gary. The Grand Thrice Ill. Master issued a dispensation authorizing the formation of the Ladies of the Circle of Perfection Study Club. On September 2, 1991 degrees were conferred upon 63 people.

From that event four (4) Courts were formed;

¨ Prince Hall

¨ Ellis T. Moore

¨ James E. Anderson

¨ Robert Williams

In May of 1992, at the request of Grand Thrice Eugene A. Williams, Grand Master James Gayles gave permission to form a Grand Court of Ladies of the Circle of Perfection. September 5, 1992, the Grand Court was formed and named Levi H. Morris Court. Doris T. Anderson served as Grand Royal Perfect and Leroy R. Gary served as Grand Royal Chief Advisor. On November 19, 1993, a marriage ceremony was performed uniting the Grand Council and the Grand Court into a relationship of the Grand Bodies of Cryptic Rite in Illinois.

In Michigan

On April 30, 1994 in the city of Detroit MI, at the request of the Grand Thrice Illustrious Master Willie L. Mosley of the Grand Council of Ohio, 48 women and 15 men were initiated into the LOCOP. This was done by the Grand Court of Illinois. There were three (3) UD Courts formed from this group with Companion Guardians appointed to oversee them;

¨ Prince Hall of Detroit – Comp. Walker V. Biggs

¨ Malachi of Detroit – Comp. William Chapman

¨ Alpha of Flint – Comp. Ralph Bloodworth

They were part of the Ohio Jurisdiction, but were not chartered by Ohio. At a later date, Prince Hall Court and Malachi Court merged into Malachi Court of Detroit. Alpha Court was renamed Omega Court of Flint.

In Ohio

¨ After numerous attempts, a study clubs were formed in Ohio and Indiana. In 2007 degrees were conferred in Dayton by Royal Grand Perfect Matron Jeanette Gary, Royal Grand Chief Advisor Robert Q. Gary, Past Royal Grand Chief Advisor Leroy R. Gary, and other members from Illinois, our mother Court. This formed the current courts that were charted on May 17, 2008 in Hudson, Ohio;

¨ Eyes of Wisdom # 3 of Cincinnati, Ohio

¨ Colour’ Purple #4 of Dayton, Ohio

¨ Queen Vashti # 5 of Indianapolis, Indiana

These three courts combined to confer the degrees upon 32 members of the Adoniram Study Club of Cleveland, and they were placed UD by the Grand Council of Ohio. On May 16, 2009 they became Adoniram Court # 6. In Addition, in April of 2010, Omega Court was awarded #2 and In May, Malachi was awarded # 1 and both courts were chartered under Ohio’s Jurisdiction.

Royal Grand Perfect Matron Kay Anderson shared her theme, motto, colors, vision and scripture with the newly formed Grand body.  She also encouraged all members to participate in and support all efforts to make this Ladies of the Circle of Perfection as strong and viable as other Prince Hall Grand Organizations. If we are going to be successful, each person should step up and be counted.  Many times, people do not understand how important they are to the success or failure of an organization.  Our family is no exception.  Some may feel their individual efforts; their presence or absence do not count toward the overall success of our family.  Wrong!  These things are very important.  We cannot overlook the fact the time and other commitments may affect how we contribute but make no mistake we must realize that our value as individual members are considerable.  I want, you to understand how each member’s actions influence our group.

Our actions today determine the life of our organization tomorrow.

Let us remember the past generations who labored to leave us this legacy.

We can do no less for the generations who follow us.
